What You'll Learn
This course is designed for people who have no previous experience with timber pests. You will learn what the major timber pests are in Australia, what harms they pose on society, how they can be managed through integrated pest management practices, and what your legal responsibilities are as a timber pest manager.
You will learn how to conduct a legal Timber Pest Inspection and Report and Pre-Purchase Timber Pest Inspection according to the AS 3660 set and AS4349.3.
Timber Pest Course Units
The units of competency taught are Nationally Recognised and form the requirements for a Timber Pest licensing across Australia (expect WA and ACT). The units of competency form two of the elective units required in the Certificate III in Urban Pest Management.

Assessment Requirements
Theory Assessment
As you progress through your online training, your knowledge base will be assessed using a range of interactive fun online quizzes and short answer questions.
Practical Assessments
- Digital Portfolio – Inspect for and report on timber pests: Demonstrate your knowledge and skill required to undertake a timber pest inspection on three sites. Evidence can be submitted via pre-recorded videos or conducted in person with your trainer.
- Digital Portfolio – Control timber pests: Demonstrate your knowledge and skill required to undertake timber pest control at three sites. Evidence can be submitted via pre-recorded videos or conducted in person with your trainer.
- Digital Logbook – Inspect for and report on timber pests: You must complete a timber pest inspection and report for seven real sites conducted within sight and sound of your supervisor. Your supervisor must validate this digital document and photographic evidence must be submitted to support the report.
- Digital Logbook – Control timber pests: You must complete timber pest controls at seven real sites conducted within sight and sound of your supervisor. Your supervisor must validate this digital document and photographic evidence must be submitted.
Course Entry Requirements
- Have a General Pest Licence or have completed a General Pest Course: You require an understanding of how to read and interpret pesticide's SDS and labels. Know your way around a pest control vehicle and be aware of safe practice when handling pesticides.
- Meet Licensing Requirements: Complete the Prerequisite Check and Declaration.
- Be employed in a pest control company: You require access to real work sites, equipment, materials, pest management vehicle and a valid supervisor to complete practical assessments.
- Unique Student Identifier: You will need to provide or obtain a USI.
- Conduct a Language Literacy and Numeracy test: We want to ensure we can promote a positive learning experience and adequately support your training. This test allows us to determine we have the right level of support for you.
